Looking back on DECLARE ORDER Professional Organizing in 2017, I feel grateful to continue to serve my community in this way.
I owe a huge, “Thank You!” to my amazing clients, organizing colleagues, family & friends, social media fans, and other business professionals I have encountered along the way. Can you believe 2017 marks Declare Order’s sixth year?
Below are a few 2017 Declare Order highlights. I couldn’t have done it without ALL of you!
GO (Get Organized) MONTH!
As Professional Development Director for NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) Chicago, I ushered in January 2017 with a little magic at our chapter meeting. No, really! I arranged for a magician, Randy Bernstein, to dazzle and educate us using magic tricks to illustrate how people can see the same thing but perceive it differently. Like disorganization for instance!
NAPO Chicago members (myself included) volunteered this year to organize donation storage for the WINGS Program. WINGS provides emergency safe shelter and transitional housing for victims of domestic violence.
I also donated my time to work with a new nonprofit, Random Acts Matter. This particular “Random Act” was for a family supported by Lazarus House, a local nonprofit helping people get back on their feet. It was a unique and rewarding experience to help determine basic organizing needs for a family coming out of homelessness.
And, once again, it was my privilege to participate in a room makeover for Special Spaces Chicagoland. Love them!
In May, I switched hats from Professional Development to the Director of Marketing board position for the NAPO Chicago chapter. I promote our events, as well as oversee our chapter’s social media! We recently hosted the multi-faceted, Lisa Montanaro, for a full-day Kick-butt Business Bootcamp and debuted a new national and chapter logo!
2017 marked my first presentation at a local public library. Do you know anyone who needs a little organizing inspiration? Declare Order is already scheduled to present at three libraries in 2018! Plan to check out the upcoming presentations in Bloomingdale, Brookfield, and Bartlett!
In April, I attended a presentation by international organizing celebrity, Marie Kondo, author of the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, with a colleague at the Chicago Humanities festival. Whether you agree with her methods or not, you have to agree that Marie’s KonMari Method™ of decluttering and organizing is an international phenomenon!
A teacher at heart, I had hoped to have a chance to teach about organizing at a local community college. In September, I got that opportunity! Waubonsie Community College hired me to teach, “How to Declutter Like a Pro!” It was great fun to prepare and present and I received five star ratings from all who enrolled.
Fun Fact: February marked the highest grossing month in the history of Declare Order! Little did I know April would smash THAT mark by 20%!!! I love my clients!
NATIONAL ORGANIZING EXPERT
My expertise was featured in an article for CleanPlates.com. The article, 4 Steps to Organizing Your Kitchen and Your Life, offers practical, easy-to-follow advice. Previously, I had been interviewed for www.WomensHealth.com, https://www.marketwatch.com/, and SpareFoot.com.
To cap off an amazing year, I was the featured guest on a national podcast talking about Declare Order. (“Be amazing,” indeed!) The podcast, the Super Organizer Show, is hosted by the multi-hyphenate, James Lott Jr.! My episode, SOS SHOW! “Finding the Balance – Being Introverted and Working Shorter Periods,” is available here, or Listen on iTunes: The SOS Show with James Lott Jr., or on iHeart Radio: The SOS Show with James Lott Jr.
Next up for 2018? Volunteering with fellow NAPO Chicago members at the Northern Illinois Food Bank for GO MONTH in January, continuing to serve my amazing Declare Order clients, and preparing to host the annual NAPO 2018 Conference. This international conference (retreat-style this year), takes place in April at the Q Center in St. Charles, IL – practically in my own backyard!
I would like to take this opportunity to again say, “THANK YOU!” to everyone for their support of Declare Order Professional Organizing. It is such a privilege to be able help clients at a local level, as well as volunteer my time – all while being a part of the national organizing conversation!
Wishing peace to you and yours in 2018.
